Hello,
Welcome to my website.
To my owner's delight her family gave me, a tiny, 6 week old, female hedgehog to her for Christmas 2010. She was smitten! She named me Rafiki which means friend in Swahili. We live in Dundee, the City of Discovery, in Scotland.
She took me to visit her granddaughter's nursery where she allowed the children to pet me gently and so I happily ate the dried meal worms they offered me. For most children it was their first experience of a hedgehog. The children and staff loved me! My owner, Liz, decided to begin breeding African Pygmy Hedgehogs in order to share the pleasure of little creatures like me with others.
Liz records all of her prickle of hedgehogs with the United Kingdom African Pygmy Hedgehog Registry. She houses each hedgehog in their own cage because we don't like to share. She gives us soft wood shavings as bedding and each cage has a safe and secure retreat to hide and sleep in and exercise equipment to keep us busy. All her hedgehogs are kept in her studio which is warm, quiet and well lit. There she is able to monitor our conditions while she works, and we get used to human activity and movement.
Liz feeds us a daily supply of high quality dried cat food along with fresh water. She also supplements our diet with nutritious foods such as mealworms (dried and live), boiled or scrambled egg, small bits of cheese, boiled chicken and/or mince, soft cat food(without fish!) and also offer chopped up boiled vegetables along with a selection of chopped fresh berries, most of which we love. My favourite vegetables are chopped carrots, avocado pear and sweetcorn kernels, Yummy!
Enjoy browsing my website and discovering more about me and my fellow hedgehogs, and feel free to contact Liz.
